Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ordering from Tailwell, sizing a carrier, traveling safely by car, and caring for your gear. Shipping and returns terms below are our final policies.
Where do you ship?
We ship to addresses across the United States. Orders in the contiguous U.S. travel with UPS Ground. PO Box, APO, FPO, and U.S. territory addresses ship with USPS Ground Advantage instead, still free — transit may run a little longer on those routes. We do not ship internationally at launch.
How long will delivery take, and how much will it cost?
Shipping is free on every order — no minimum, no code, nothing to add at checkout. Orders are processed in 1–2 business days (Monday–Friday, excluding U.S. federal holidays), then transit takes 2–5 business days in the contiguous U.S. You get a confirmation email when you order and a tracking email as soon as your label is created. Taxes are calculated at checkout where applicable. See the full Shipping Policy for the step-by-step timeline.
What is your return window?
You have 30 days from the delivery date — not the order date — to return an item. Items must be unused, unwashed, in their original packaging, and in resalable condition. Returns are free: we send you a prepaid UPS return label. See the full Returns & Refunds Policy.
How do I start a return, and when will I get my refund?
Email business@Tailwell.shop with your order number, the item(s), and the reason. We reply within 1 business day with a prepaid UPS return label and instructions. After your return reaches our returns center, inspection takes 1–2 business days. If it passes, your refund is released 7–10 business days after return acceptance, back to your original payment method. Your bank or card issuer may take a few extra days to post it. You get an email at every stage: label sent, return received, inspection result, and refund released.
How do I measure my dog for a travel carrier?
Measure your dog standing: length from nose to the base of the tail, height from the floor to the top of the head or ears (whichever is taller), and current weight. Add a few inches of clearance to the length and height so your dog can stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. Check those measurements against the listed dimensions on the product page of any carrier in our dog travel carriers collection before ordering. Our Carrier Fit Guide walks through the full measuring process.
Can I use your carriers on airplanes?
Many of our carriers are designed in airline-style shapes that fit under typical airline seats, but every airline publishes its own maximum under-seat dimensions and pet policies, and these rules change. Always check your specific airline's current pet travel page before booking, measure the listed carrier dimensions against the airline's limits, and call the airline to confirm your pet's reservation. Soft-sided carriers offer some flexibility in tight spaces, which is one reason travelers often choose them.
How should my dog be secured in the car?
An unrestrained dog can become a distraction and may be injured in sudden stops. Common options include seatbelt harness adapters that clip to a well-fitted harness, elevated car seats for smaller dogs that keep them contained and raised, and crates secured in the cargo area. Rules about restraining pets vary by state and locality, so check the regulations where you live and where you are driving. Our car seat and travel safety collection covers covers, hammocks, restraints, and door protectors.
Will a car seat cover fit my vehicle?
Our seat covers are designed to drape over standard back seats, with straps that loop around the headrests and openings that allow access to seatbelts. Because seat shapes, widths, and headrest styles vary between vehicles, measure your back seat and check it against the listed product dimensions before ordering. Hammock-style covers span from the front headrests to the rear headrests to block the footwell gap; check your cabin layout to make sure the strap points line up.
How do I clean the carriers, seat covers, and bowls?
Most of our fabric gear is designed for easy upkeep: shake off loose dirt and hair, wipe surfaces with a damp cloth and mild soap, and air dry completely before storing. Collapsible silicone bowls can be rinsed or hand-washed after each use. Avoid harsh bleach or high-heat dryers unless the care label says otherwise. Regular cleaning after muddy trips keeps zippers, mesh, and straps working smoothly.
Are the materials durable for regular travel use?
Our gear is designed with travel in mind: reinforced stitching at stress points, water-resistant coatings on car covers and hammocks, chew-resistant nylon webbing on leashes, and food-grade silicone in collapsible bowls. That said, no fabric product is indestructible, and sharp claws, chewing, or dragging across rough surfaces will wear any material over time. Inspect straps, buckles, and seams before each trip, and retire any gear that shows fraying or damage.
